Creating a Scalable WordPress Platform to Support Community Services and Public Health Access
Get in touchLeeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust provides a wide range of community-based services to adults and children across the city — from health visiting and district nursing to physiotherapy, mental health, and specialist support. With thousands of staff working in clinics, schools, and homes, the Trust plays a vital role in delivering integrated care closer to where people live.
The Trust’s public-facing website had become outdated, difficult to navigate, and burdensome to update — limiting how effectively services could be communicated and accessed. Leeds Community Healthcare partnered with 6B to design and deliver a modern WordPress platform, built to improve access for patients and carers, while empowering internal teams with flexible publishing tools.
The legacy site lacked the structure, flexibility, and accessibility needed for a modern community healthcare provider. Service pages were inconsistent, important information was hard to find, and the CMS was too rigid for non-technical users to manage.
Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust needed:
6B delivered a bespoke WordPress website tailored to the Trust’s structure, audience, and operational needs. We restructured content around patient journeys and service types, making it easier for residents to find care, make referrals, and understand what support is available.
Using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and custom post types, we created modular components for service listings, contact directories, FAQs, and updates. The CMS was configured for ease of use by non-technical staff, with clear approval workflows and role-based access to manage content across departments.
The site was designed and tested to meet full WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards, with semantic markup, screen reader compatibility, and strong mobile performance. Service navigation was simplified with filterable directories, location tagging, and improved on-site search.
6B also supported the content migration process — consolidating pages, applying structured metadata, and ensuring a smooth transition to the new platform without loss of information or SEO value. Post-launch, we provided training and documentation to help staff take full control of the new CMS.
The new website has significantly improved how Leeds Community Healthcare communicates with patients, carers, and partners. Key services are now easier to find, the content is more consistent and accessible, and internal teams can update pages quickly and confidently without developer input.
The platform has become a central part of the Trust’s digital strategy — providing a scalable, secure, and easy-to-manage foundation for both public communications and future service innovation.
