Unifying Care Homes with a Multi-Site WordPress Platform to Improve Clarity, Management & User Experience
Get in touchBelmont Healthcare operates a network of high-quality care homes across the South East of England, offering a broad spectrum of services including residential care, dementia care, nursing, bariatric care, respite, rehabilitation, and homecare. They serve multiple audiences — prospective residents and their families, care home staff, regulatory bodies, and internal management teams. Their digital presence needed to reflect the high standards of care, but the existing site was fairly static, difficult to update, and didn’t clearly differentiate or showcase individual homes in a way that delivered personalised information for local users.
Belmont wanted a modern, flexible website structure that would allow each care home to have its own “mini-site” presence under the Belmont brand, whilst retaining shared identity and common functionality. Internally, staff needed the ability to manage content for individual homes, keep service types, staff leadership, and quality assurance details up to date; externally, users needed to find local care homes, view the care services available, and navigate the site easily from any device.
6B was engaged to design and build a new WordPress website for Belmont Healthcare, including a WordPress MultiSite setup to support individual microsites for each of their care homes, with shared design, shared templates, and shared components, but enough autonomy for each home to present its local information.
Belmont Healthcare required:
6B delivered a bespoke WordPress MultiSite platform for Belmont Healthcare that balanced shared branding and core functionality with the autonomy required for individual care homes. At the heart of the solution was a robust MultiSite architecture, enabling each care home to operate as a microsite under the Belmont Healthcare network. This approach allowed shared templates, modules, and design systems to maintain brand consistency across the organisation, while giving each home the flexibility to tailor its content — from images and service listings to leadership information and local updates.
The platform was designed with modularity and ease of use in mind. Using Advanced Custom Fields and custom post types, we created flexible components that empower internal teams to manage service descriptions, staff profiles, news, events, and quality assurance details independently. To support user navigation, the information architecture was restructured with clear pathways to “Our Homes,” “Types of Care,” “Advice Hub,” and “About Us.” Homes can be discovered through interactive maps and filtered searches that highlight services such as dementia care, bariatric care, or respite support.
Accessibility and performance were prioritised throughout development. The responsive design ensures that the site works seamlessly across devices, and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance guarantees usability for diverse audiences, including older users and family members. A central Advice & Insights hub was also introduced, providing a rich library of news, articles, and guides designed to help families make informed decisions about care. To ensure long-term sustainability, internal teams were trained on how to manage both individual microsites and shared platform updates, supported by documentation and governance processes. Performance optimisation, security measures, and scalable hosting were implemented to safeguard sensitive data while delivering a fast and reliable user experience.
The launch of the new Belmont Healthcare website has transformed the organisation’s digital presence. Families and prospective residents can now navigate the site with ease, locating care homes quickly and exploring the specific services offered at each one. Each microsite feels personalised yet consistent with the wider Belmont brand, striking a balance between local identity and organisational cohesion. This clarity has not only improved user confidence but has also strengthened the visibility of Belmont’s diverse care offering.
For internal teams, the new platform has significantly reduced dependency on developers. Content editors are now empowered to update individual home pages, publish news, and maintain the Advice Hub independently, streamlining workflows and ensuring timely communication with families and stakeholders. The unified design system has also reinforced brand consistency across the group, presenting Belmont Healthcare as a trusted and professional provider.
Accessibility and performance improvements mean the site now delivers a smoother, faster experience across devices, particularly important for families browsing on mobile. Finally, the MultiSite structure provides Belmont Healthcare with a scalable foundation for growth. As new care homes join the organisation, microsites can be added quickly and seamlessly, future-proofing the platform and ensuring it continues to evolve alongside Belmont’s expanding network of services.
